About
Methionine is an essential amino acid. It can be converted into a sulfur-containing molecule which has many functions in you body. It is also important in the process of producing new proteins. Abnormal for it's importance, low methionine diets have shown to extend lifespan in animals (1) (2) (3) although this same research has not been performed on humans.

There a no recorded benefits for general purpose use
Safety
Methionine can convert to homocysteine which is an amino acid associated with heart disease. (1) (2) Although this conversion seems to be caused by low vitamin levels, which is especially common among vegans (1) (2)
In large doses the recorded side effects were:
- Dizziness
- Sleepiness
- Changes in blood pressure

There are no known potentially harmful combinations
Usage
Not recommended for use without advice of a medical professional, speak with a doctor if you wish to take methionine.
Other Uses
Useful for treating acetaminophen poisoning. There is insufficient evidence for its use in treating many different types of cancer, STDs, and psychological issues.
